Carlota was born and raised in San José to Mexican immigrant parents from northern and central México. She has worked with the immigrant community, particularly those originating from Latin American, since 2004.

Carlota has served on the Step Forward Foundation board since 2019. Her hopes for Step Forward are that it be equipped to adapt and evolve with the needs of its clients so that it continues to become an integral part of the community in which it operates.
